Dress code: Cocktail
In this, the party season, deciphering dress code can turn out to be somewhat of a problem.
So what does “cocktail dress” mean? ……It means jeans are OUT, even if they are designer jeans.
A cocktail dress is typically a shorter evening dress, and the length can be anything from mid-thigh to knee length, to mid/low calf.
The colour of your outfit doesn’t matter, and the proverbial little black dress is always suitable…
….”but I’ve had my colours done, and according to my colour analyst I’m not a winter so I can’t wear black” you wail. Now if your primary season is not winter, don’t stress, you can substitute Navy for black if you are either Spring or Summer, and Olive if you are Autumn (learn more here).
If the cocktail party is directly after work and you really don’t have time to go home and change, wear a great suit to work (can be either skirt or pants) and substitute your work blouse for a slinky little silk or satin camisole under your jacket, add some bling, a stunning lipstick and some killer heels and you’re all good to go. Remember to add a smile, that is your most important form of jewellery
